For over 50 years, Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District (BCSWMD) has been a leader in responsible solid waste management for the community. From humble beginnings managing a network of open dump sites in the 1960s, we have evolved into a comprehensive waste management organization dedicated to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Our mission is to provide reliable, efficient, and sustainable solid waste management services to Bartholomew County residents through innovative programs and facilities while fostering waste reduction and conservation. We strive to:

• Modern sanitary landfill with advanced safety measures for waste disposal.

Recycling & Reuse

• Comprehensive recycling center accepting various materials, including electronics, office paper, cardboard, and more.
• Active reuse programs for eligible items.

Waste Reduction & Education

• Educational programs and workshops for schools and the community on waste prevention, recycling, and sustainability.
• Public outreach campaigns to encourage waste reduction and encourage residents to adopt sustainable practices.

Specialized Programs

• Rural refuse collection program for underserved areas.

• 10-acre municipal composting operation converting yard waste into nutrient-rich compost.
